Juan Rendon Schneir is Senior Project Manager at Deutsche Telekom* in Bonn, Germany, where he works on process, planning and cost optimization aspects of telecommunications systems for the company in Europe.
He obtained a Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Spain in 2001. From 2011 to 2015 he was Senior Finance and Regulatory Manager at Huawei Technologies in the headquarters of West Europe in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he worked on the financial, regulatory and strategic analysis of telecom carriers in West Europe. Between 2008 and 2011 he was Senior Consultant in the Cost Modelling and Internet Economics Department at WIK-Consult, an economic research institute and consulting firm located on the outskirts of Bonn, Germany. From 2001 to 2008 he worked initially as Lecturer and then as Assistant Professor in the Department of information and communication technologies at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain. From 2005 to 2007 he was a Visiting Professor at ITAM University in Mexico, and in 2002 he was a Visiting Researcher at Karlstad University in Sweden. He previously worked for the telecommunications companies Telefónica and Italtel.
Juan has worked in the field of the optimization of transport protocols for the following wireless systems: 4G, UMTS, and GPRS. Currently his research interests include financial and cost aspects of telecommunications networks (FTTH, 5G/6G, Automation, Artificial Intelligence, NGN, etc.), telecommunications regulation, and innovation and technology adoption.
